Fellow Zimbabweans,
These are unprecedented times in Zimbabwe and we patiently wait for more clarity on these unfolding events.
If the military is to be taken at its word, this is merely a transitional measure as they weed out what they have termed as “criminal elements”, and work towards reinstating democratic processes.
The military say this exercise is to address the social and economic meltdown in Zimbabwe and few can argue that we are not in social or economic decline.
To the best of our knowledge, events thus far have been peaceful in regards to ordinary citizens, and it’s important that they remain so.
We will continue to seek clarity on what this means for the ordinary Zimbabwean on the street and we will, in time, also need clarification on electoral processes. We will continue to look to the Constitution, as the supreme law of the land, to ensure that electoral processes set for next year proceed in a free and fair manner, so that the will of the people can be exercised.
We were prepared and are still prepared to address this crisis at the polls and we encourage everyone to keep registering and preparing for an election. The landscape of the next election, it seems, will be vastly different to any we have seen before.
Today the military called on all sectors of civil society to remain calm and we echo that sentiment. They also made it clear that the young people are the future of Zimbabwe and this is the message of our campaign: that the youth are the future, and we should take an active, Constitutional, role in our governance.
Stay Safe.
